Everyday practices and actions

Climate change is so massive that it’s tempting to think…”How can anything I do make a difference?” However our experience is that by practicing small and big changes in our own lives, we feel connected to the wider movement towards a sustainable society, and that in itself gives hope and joy.  And once we  are  practiced at living within our means in a way that emphasize relationships and enjoying the everyday beauty of the world around us, it becomes easier to advocate for the systems change that is needed without feeling scared by requirements to give things up or to stop leaning on consumption for fulfillfment and meaning.

” Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it’s the only thing that ever has” Margaret Mead , the anthropologist

  • Plant some food. No garden? plant some herbs on your window ledge
  • Find a lovely tree or location nearby, and go on regular walks there a few times a week – say hi to the tree, and notice the changes through the season
  • Forage berries, flowers, or mushrooms near you as a way of getting to know and love the nature in your local neighbourhood
  • Share…books , magazines
  • Buy second hand clothes.
  • Reduce meat consumption.
  • Walk or cycle rather than ride the bus
  • Bus or train not car
  • Car share
  • Organise or take part in a beach or verge clean up

All these little actions can act as way to begin conversations with friends and neighbours about what we are doing and why.
