Practice Groups

A Zen group that meets regularly to practise together and for friendship is called a sangha.

Find a Practice Group

There are many sanghas across the UK in Thich Nhat Hanh’s Plum Village tradition. Some meet in each others’ home. Others are much larger.

Use our Sangha Finder to find a group near you:

To find sanghas elsewhere in the world you can search on Plumline

If you need help finding a group or have any questions about sanghas please email uksanghacoordinator@plumvillage.uk

All the sanghas we list offer a variety of styles and formats, while all still having Plum Village Zen and the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh at their heart.

Meeting Online

If you are unable to reach an in-person sangha, joining an online group is another way to benefit from the support of others.

Online Sanghas

A schedule of all online meetings in the UK timezone can be found on Plumline.

We offer daily online meditations led by Dharma Teachers and Order Members that you can join too:

Mon / Wed / Fri – 6:15 – 7:00 AM

Tue / Thu – 7:30 – 8:15 AM

Mon to Sat – 7 – 7:30 PM

Sundays 5 – 6 PM

Affinity Sanghas

An affinity sangha is a dedicated practice group formed by individuals who share specific social identities, backgrounds, or lived experiences.

We recognise the wisdom of and need for these safe places of refuge, where members can support each other to explore the intersection of practice and their unique struggles.

Most UK affinity sanghas meet online with a few in person too.

Sangha Resources

Start A Sangha

You don’t need to be a monastic or a meditation teacher to start a sangha. All you need is a simple aspiration to practise with others.

Building a sangha is like planting a sunflower.

Register

We invite UK sanghas to register as affiliated to the charity. Affiliated sanghas benefit from our shared public liability insurance, publicising of your sangha by us, plus full support and advice regarding all aspects of running a sangha.

We suggest an annual donation based on your sangha’s size, but feel free to make a contribution in line with your circumstances, especially if you are just setting up and don’t have many members yet.

Bells are used to bring us home to our body and breathing. This guide outlines and explains the form.
