Four Noble Truths – Day of Mindfulness in Oxford

A day of practice led by Dharma Teacher Angie Searle.

6 minute walk from the nearest station on a mainline railway.

key info

6 Oct 2024 - 6 Oct 2024

We are pleased to invite you to a Day of Mindfulness with the Oxford and Sunflower Sanghas.

Life is filled with suffering, but it is also filled with many wonders, like the blue sky, the sunshine, the eyes of a baby. To suffer is not enough. We must also be in touch with the wonders of life.

This day of mindfulness offers us an opportunity to come back to ourselves, to become aware of our body and mind in this moment. When we are attentive to our body and present for our pain, we are already in the process of caring for our suffering. With mindful breathing and mindful attention, we embrace and care for our suffering. We will deepen our experience through sitting, walking and eating meditation, as well as sharing deep listening and mindful speech.

Venue

Cholsey Pavilion Trust
The Pavilion
Station Road
Cholsey OX10 9PT

There is a large car park, accessible disabled parking, and an accessible toilet.

Walking Meditation

If the weather allows, we will take a mindful walk on the adjoining playing field. Please bring suitable shoes/boots and jackets. Alternative arrangements will be made for people with mobility issues. Please make us aware in advance.

Lunch/Refreshments

Please bring your own lunch. Tea and other hot beverages will be available, but please bring your own if you’d prefer.

Other things to bring

There will be chairs available in the hall. Please bring your preferred sitting cushion and blanket for our meditation and deep relaxation sessions.

Dana

In the Buddhist tradition, the teachings are given freely because they are considered priceless. We practise dana, or generosity, by making monetary offerings for the teachings. You will have an opportunity to contribute dana to the teacher, in cash preferably, on the day.

Volunteers

If you would like to offer some time and energy to our day by volunteering, please email us at sunflowerpangbourne@gmail.com by 6 September.  We will need help with:

  • Welcoming and directing people
  • Setting up the hall and tidying up afterwards
  • Organising refreshments
  • Bringing flowers and flower arranging#
  • Organising car-sharing and giving lifts
  • Ad-hoc roles on the day!

We will also need help from experienced Plum Village facilitators to support small dharma sharing groups.

Covid Safety

Please do not attend if you test positive for Covid or have any symptoms of Covid, such as flu or a cold. The hall will be well ventilated, but please wear a mask if you wish to.

Further details will be emailed to ticket-holders one week before the start of this event.

We very much look forward to sharing a wonderful day with you.
