This was a deeply powerful\, healing\, and transformative teaching that made Ian stop\, look deeply\, and realise that he had been on the wrong entrepreneurial path for most of his life. \nMindfulness has given Ian so much benefit\, helping every aspect of his life (ethics\, health\, relationships\, compassion\, insight\, concentration\, livelihood\, peace\, kindness\, openness\, etc) and his volition is now to dedicate his life to continuing to deepen his practice\, to lead a happy and joyful life and to help bring Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings to others\, whilst also building community. \nIan spends time between Plum Village France and the UK and practices predominantly with Nottingham Deep Roots and Durham Sacred Earth Sanghas. \n  \n\nKirstie Berridge\nKirstie is firmly committed to the Plum Village approach to mindfulness\, having been introduced to Thich Nhat Hanh in 2013 and receiving the Five Mindfulness Trainings while on retreat in Plum Village France in 2022 and the lineage name\, Deepening Path of the Source. Kirstie is now enjoying the journey as an Aspirant to receive the Fourteen Mindfulness Training and to join the UK Order of Interbeing. \nMuch of Kirstie’s time is spent on Sangha building and spreading the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh\, providing administrative and marketing support for Plum Village UK on a voluntary basis\, including supporting the delivery of Plum Village UK’s Mindfulness courses and serving as the UK Sangha Coordinator. Kirstie is fortunate to visit Plum Village France regularly. \nKirstie continues to experience the transformational benefits of practicing mindfulness on all aspects of her life\, including relationships\, right livelihood and interbeing. SUMMARY:Rainbow Sangha
DESCRIPTION:Who we are\nAs people identifying under this umbrella\, we may face challenges and discrimination within ourselves and from the outside. Our wish is to support each other and to acknowledge our own uniqueness and connectedness. \nWe co-create a mindful space where we can equally share our pain and our joy\, where we don’t need to assess risks of showing who we truly are or edit the queerness of our experience for the perceived benefit of others. We enjoy being joyfully together. \nWhat we do\nWithin Rainbow Sangha\, we have created a space that’s welcoming and open to anyone interested in the practice of mindfulness. Some of us have been practising for years and others are just starting out on their path of practice. We are mindful to explain and explore how we practice so that we all can benefit. \nMeeting on Zoom has allowed our sangha to be open to all\, regardless of location\, and we welcome participants from around the globe. Most of us join with our video enabled but some join only with audio\, whatever works best for each person. \nAs well as our weekly Rainbow Sangha\, we have a gender diverse sangha which meets monthly\, and a study group which meets twice a month. \nWhat we say\nIt is a very friendly\, warm\, and supportive community. What amazes me especially is how diverse it is: every part of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum seems to be represented\, and there is also a wide range of ages and life experiences. This makes the process of dharma sharing incredibly rich. \n— Mark S\, gay\, cis-gendered male\, age 65 \nit is no exaggeration to say Plum Village and this Sangha have transformed my life for the better. It is a great source of comfort\, stability and happiness for me. It is very welcoming\, kind and supportive\, like a big warm hug. \n— Jules\, cis-gendered lesbian\, age 48 \nRainbow Sangha is a place where I feel safe and allows me to be me! We practice deep listening and Dharma sharing\, meditation and Thay’s teachings and I feel valued\, accepted and loved! I love my new virtual family!! \n— Julie (she/her) \nThe welcome\, warmth and wisdom of friends from across the spectrum has nourished me to grow in myself and the support and sharing is an inspiration. A simply joyous space. \n— K8 MacKenzie – she/her \nThe sangha is a truly welcoming\, warm\, honest and nurturing space and it’s so beautiful to see friendly diverse faces each week and to share time together. \n— Natalie \nI really like the fact that the sangha is completely rainbow spectrum Inclusive especially as for TNB people for whom diverse sexuality is also relevant. \nGary \n  \nJoining Us\nPlease email us at rainbowsanghauk@gmail.com for more information on Rainbow Sangha and how you can join us.

SUMMARY:Diamond Moon Sangha
DESCRIPTION:Diamond Moon Sangha – Vajra Chandra Sangha\nA Sangha for Disabled (Dis) and Neurodiverse (ND) practitioners following the teachings of Ven. Thich Nhat Hanh\, Sisters\, Brothers and Siblings of Plum Village. \nIn our Sangha\, we embrace a mindful approach to navigating the challenges of disability and neurodiversity\, inspired by the teachings of Ven. Thich Nhat Hanh\, the Buddha\, and the practices of Plum Village. \nWe understand that pain\, whether physical or emotional\, is a natural part of life. Through mindfulness\, we learn to observe our differences with a gentle and non-judgemental awareness\, transforming our relationship with them. \n  \nMindful Approach to Disability & Neurodiversity\nWe recognise the interconnectedness of mind and body\, and the interbeing nature of our experiences through a “disabled body or neurodiverse lens”. \nInterbeing\, a term from Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings\, refers to the interconnectedness of all things the understanding\, that nothing exists in isolation\, and every experience is shaped by countless conditions. \nViewing the world and our experiences through our unique perspectives as disabled and neurodiverse individuals\, acknowledging how our bodies and minds interact with the environment and society. \nThis holistic view helps us to understand and respond to difficulties and pain\, as well as to the joys. Enhancing the positives and supporting and working through the challenges of sharing the body and mind\, broadening how we relate to our place in the cosmos. \n  \nA Safe and Accessible Environment for All\nOur Sangha is a space where everyone can practise together\, regardless of their diagnosis. We are committed to creating an accessible and supportive environment\, where each member feels seen\, heard\, and valued. \nTo ensure inclusivity\, we offer online meetings with captioning\, sensory-friendly spaces\, and flexible participation options to accommodate diverse needs\, fostering a community of compassion. \nThe Sangha name ‘Diamond Moon’ refers to the zen guidance of “the finger pointing at the moon” which is a metaphor that illustrates the distinction between teachings (the finger) and the ultimate reality or truth (the moon) they point to. The diamond’s facets illustrating the various aspects of ND and Dis lived experience. \n  \nDiamond Moon Sangha – Vajra Chandra Sangha\nA Sangha for Disabled (Dis) and Neurodiverse (ND) practitioners\, as well as everyone seeking community in the spirit of inclusiveness\, following the teachings of Ven. Thich Nhat Hanh\, our beloved Sisters\, Brothers\, and Siblings of Plum Village. \nIn our Sangha\, we gently hold space for all who wish to walk or roll the mindful path\, embracing the full spectrum of human experience. Guided by the wisdom of Ven. Thich Nhat Hanh\, the Buddha\, and the practices of Plum Village\, we recognise that pain\, whether physical\, emotional\, or societal\, is part of our shared journey. \nWith compassion and curiosity\, we practise seeing and honouring our differences through the eyes of understanding. \nAs Thich Nhat Hanh reminds us\, The most precious gift we can offer others is our presence. When mindfulness embraces those we love\, they will bloom like flowers \n  \nMindful Approach to Disability\, Neurodiversity\, and Inclusiveness\nWe celebrate the interconnectedness of mind and body\, and the interbeing nature of our experiences knowing that each person brings their own unique perspective to our shared practice. \nInterbeing\, a central teaching of Thich Nhat Hanh\, is the realisation that all things and all people are deeply woven together; no one and nothing is isolated. \nOur collective wisdom is enriched by recognising how our diverse bodies\, minds\, backgrounds\, and identities interact with the world around us. \nAs our teacher says\, “When you touch one thing with deep awareness\, you touch everything.” \nWith this insight\, we welcome and affirm every part of ourselves and one another. Whether we arrive carrying visible or invisible differences\, our Sangha aspires to offer not only acceptance\, but a wholehearted embrace of all that we are. \nWe see disability and neurodiversity\, as well as other lived experiences\, not as barriers\, but as facets of the beautiful jewel of our community each shimmer adding depth and light. \nBy listening deeply and sharing mindfully\, we grow our compassion and nourish each other’s joy\, resilience\, and wisdom. \n  \nA Safe\, Accessible\, and Welcoming Environment for All\nOur Sangha is a refuge where all are welcomed regardless of diagnosis\, ability\, background\, language\, culture\, identity\, or spiritual journey. Our commitment is to continually create spaces that are safe\, accessible\, and supportive\, where every member feels seen\, heard\, and valued. \nWe strive to meet one another with open hearts and open minds\, inviting feedback and co-creating practices that honour the fullness of our community’s diversity. \nTo foster genuine inclusiveness\, we offer online gatherings with live captioning\, sensory-friendly settings\, and flexible participation options. We are attentive to the evolving needs of our Sangha\, adapting as we learn together. \nGuided meditations may be tailored for various sensitivities\, and silent or gently facilitated spaces are always available for those who need calm or reflection. No one is left behind or forgotten; all are invited to share in the nourishing energy of our collective mindfulness. \n  \nThe Meaning Behind Diamond Moon\nThe name ‘Diamond Moon’ evokes the Zen teaching of “the finger pointing at the moon”: a reminder that teachings are but guides\, pointing us toward the wonders of truth and reality never separate\, always interconnected. \nThe diamond’s many facets represent the rich variety of lived experience within our Sangha\, each angle reflecting a different kind of beauty and strength. \nThe moon casts its gentle light on all beings without exception\, just as our community aspires to radiate welcome and understanding to everyone. \nAt Diamond Moon Sangha\, we invite all who seek a loving\, inclusive community to join us in cultivating mindfulness\, happiness\, and understanding honouring every individual\, every background\, and every path. \nTogether\, we discover that through our differences\, our practice and our compassion only deepen. In the words of Thich Nhat Hanh\, “We are here to awaken from the illusion of our separateness.” \nExplore community \n  \nDiamond Moon Sangha – Vajra Chandra Sangha Charter\nA refuge of mindfulness\, compassion\, and inclusiveness in the Plum Village tradition. \n  \nMotivation\nDiamond Moon Sangha exists to offer a safe\, loving\, and accessible community for all beings Disabled (Dis) and Neurodiverse (ND) practitioners and mental health challenges\, where mindfulness and compassion are practised in the spirit of Ven. Thích Nhat Hanh and the Plum Village tradition. \nOur aspirations are to: \n— Cultivate mindfulness and joy in every moment.\n— Honour the truth of interbeing and impermanence.\n— Embrace diversity as a source of collective wisdom and beauty.\n— Create spaces where every person feels seen\, heard\, and valued. \n  \nVision\nWe envision a Sangha where differences are not barriers but facets of a jewel\, each adding depth and light. Through deep listening and mindful presence\, we aspire to awaken from the illusion of separateness and nurture a world of understanding and peace. \n  \nCore Values\n— Inclusiveness: Welcoming all identities\, abilities\, and backgrounds.\n— Compassion: Holding space for pain and joy with tenderness.\n— Interbeing: Recognising our deep interconnectedness with all life.\n— Accessibility: Committing to safe\, adaptable\, and sensory-friendly environments.\n— Mindful Speech & Listening: Speaking truthfully and listening deeply to nourish harmony. \n  \nGuiding Principles\n1. SUMMARY:London Vesak Celebration - Watering the Buddha Within
DESCRIPTION:Join our Vesak celebration honouring the Buddha’s birth\, awakening\, and the path of peace within us all. \nTake part in bathing the baby Buddha\, symbolising the cleansing of unwholesome seeds\, beginning anew and revealing our true nature of compassion. \nAll are welcome including children. Please reserve a free ticket. \n\nTouch the awakened nature within ourselves as we honour the Buddha’s life\, his awakening\, and the path he opened for all beings \nVesak is the Buddhist celebration of the Buddha’s life and Enlightenment. It is a precious moment for us to gently recognise our habit energies\, to nourish understanding and compassion\, and to reflect on the legacy we offer the world through our thoughts\, our speech\, and our actions. \nWe lovingly request that you reserve a free ticket so that we can understand how many friends are attending and offer a celebration that is safe\, warm\, and truly meaningful for everyone in our community. \nThe Ceremony\nDuring the ceremony\, we will sit together in the spirit of siblinghood. With our gentle breathing and open hearts\, we will offer incense to the Buddha. Its gentle fragrance is the perfume of our mindfulness\, our togetherness\, and our interbeing. We will meditate together to be in touch with the present moment\, and chant to deepen our understanding and awareness. \nWe will have a chance to walk together in procession. With each step\, we can offer our presence and dedicate our steps to the Buddha\, to Th?y\, and to those who are dear to us. \nWe will then water the baby Buddha as we are held by the Chant of Compassion – Namo Avalokiteshvaraya. \n“The baby Buddha is the seed of awakening in every one of us.” \nEveryone is warmly welcome\, especially children who bring their own freshness and joy to the practice. \nYou may bring fresh flower petals to add to the Buddha’s bath if you wish. \nWe hope to share this nourishing Vesak celebration with you. \nThe Organising Team – a beautiful collaboration of Plum Village Sanghas \nColours of Compassion Sangha \nFamily Sangha \nHeart of London Sangha \nMai Blossom Vietnamese Sangha \nWake Up London Sangha

DESCRIPTION:This month facilitated by Michael Schwammberger\n  \nLooking at recent events (the war in the Middle East) including the situation in Ukraine\, Gaza\, Lebanon\, Sudan\, and other forgotten conflicts\, we may get the feeling that perhaps genunine longterm peace is an illusion. \nYet at the same time our Plum Village tradition has direct roots in the Vietnam war and from that event Thay has offered us a way to practice peace and to create the foundations for peace to manifest. \nThe talk will invites us all to reflect on peace as a theme and to collectively see what we can do to nurture peace. \nResources\nBUILDING FOUNDATIONS FOR PEACE \nMINISTRY FOR PEACE \n  \n\n\nMichael Schwammberger (Chan Phap Son – True Dharma Mountain) \nMichael was born in the UK but grew up in the beautiful island of Ibiza\, Spain. \nIn 1996 he arrived in Plum Village inspired by Thay’s book Peace is Every Step after having practiced insight meditation for 4 years at Gaia House meditation centre\, in the UK. \nHe stayed on in Plum Village\, being deeply moved by Thich Nhat Hanh and the sense of community\, and ended up ordaining as a novice monk in February 1997\, receiving his full ordination and the 14 mindfulness trainings in 1998. \nIn January 2003 he received the lamp transmission. He lived in Plum Village\, France and the monasteries in the United States (Deer Park and Maple Forest\, now Blue Cliff) and travelled extensively with Thay in his teaching tours. \nMichael took a sabbatical in 2011 and returned to lay life in 2012 and teaches as a lay teacher offering retreats in Europe and Israel. \n\nOn the first Sunday of every month\, we offer a Morning of Mindfulness led by UK Lay Dharma Teachers\, Members of the Order of Interbeing\, Monastic Dharma Teachers and special guests. \nThe morning will typically include a guided meditation\, followed by a talk or panel. SUMMARY:White Awareness Sangha
DESCRIPTION:This is an opportunity for Plum Village UK sangha members who are interested in practicing together and reflecting on what being racialised as white means. \nThe White Awareness sangha meetings offer an open\, compassionate space of deep listening and loving speech where we can explore how we can recognise and transform racism\, both overt and unconscious\, in ourselves and the communities we move in. \nWe will include time for sitting meditation\, a reflective reading or talk\, and a time for sharing. \nPractising together to look deeply at what a white identity means to us can help us embrace and transform the ancestral suffering within us and around us – as well as helping us grow inclusive sanghas where all people can find a home. These sessions are focused on the specific roles\, responsibilities and experiences of being racialised as white. \nResources\nOur white awareness sangha meets following the Call to Love in Action shared by ARISE Plum Village Sangha. \nAfrican American Dharma teacher Ruth King writes about the benefit of racial affinity groups here. \n

SUMMARY:Cultivating Sangha Being Sangha
DESCRIPTION:Schedule\nFri 15 May: 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM\nSat 16 May: 7:00 AM – 6:30 PM with frequent breaks\nSun 17 May: 7:00 AM – 6:30 PM with frequent breaks \n\nBy bringing joy and happiness to one person\, we bring joy and happiness to every one of us. That is why I think that community-building\, sangha-building\, is the most important\, most noble work that we can do. \n— Thich Nhat Nanh \n  \nRooted in the Plum Village Tradition\, we will explore facilitation as a continuation of our own practice\, learning together how to create inclusive\, safe\, and sustainable online Sangha spaces \nTogether\, we will reflect on how we hold and serve Sanghas online with care\, inclusivity\, and ethical awareness\, while also attending to our own sustainability and well-being. \nThrough shared practice\, dialogue\, and peer reflection\, participants are invited to deepen confidence\, clarity\, and connection in their facilitation\, and to discover how online Sangha can continue to be a place of refuge and true togetherness. \n  \nRetreat Leaders\n\nRehena Harilall / True Deep Source (she/we) \nRehena Harilall is an Order of Interbeing member and Dharma Teacher in the Plum Village Tradition. Rooted in African and Asian heritages\, her practice has been shaped by growing up in apartheid South Africa and by a long-standing inquiry into healing\, belonging\, and collective care. \nShe has practised in the Plum Village tradition since 1998\, and practices and facilitates with Sanghas in the UK\, the USA\, and Botswana. Rehena brings a mindfulness-based\, trauma-aware approach to Sangha life and facilitation\, informed by her training in psychology\, somatic abolition and trauma work\, and her professional work in organisational and business contexts. \nShe sits on the EDI Advisory Group of the British Association of Mindfulness-Based Approaches\, contributing to making mindfulness more inclusive\, recognising non-MBSR-based pathways\, and supporting the development of trauma-aware practice in mindfulness settings. She has written about practice in Lion’s Roar and The Mindfulness Bell\, and brings her practice outward through multi-faith relationship-building and the creation of collective spaces of care for engaged action. \n  \n\nSita Brand / True Lotus Wisdom \nSita is a story archaeologist\, storyteller and UK Dharma Teacher. \nShe has spent 40 years as a professional storyteller\, bringing using story to educate and empower communities through her organisation Settle Stories. She also serves as a Buddhist prison chaplain\, where she has witnessed the need and desire for stories. \nSita has over 30 years of mindfulness meditation practice and is trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). \nHer background as a storyteller of dual heritage (Indian father\, English mother) informs how she approaches questions of belonging\, identity\, and the ancestral wisdom we carry or reject. \nShe is also a visual artist influenced by Indian folk art traditions\, weaving together themes of cultural meeting\, traditional wisdom\, and everyday sacred moments. \n  \nPractical Information\nTraining\nThis retreat is structured around the Buddhist principles known as the Six Togethernesses (Six Harmonies)\, which offer a living framework for how a Sangha practises and serves together. \nThe sessions explore togetherness in body\, speech\, mind\, ethical conduct\, shared understanding\, and mutual support\, offering a clear and wholesome way to cultivate\, nourish\, and care for Sangha. \nThrough guided practice\, Dharma insights and sharing\, dialogue\, and real-life scenario examples\, participants will explore how to embody togetherness in online facilitation\, with particular attention to staying present and grounded when difficult or sensitive situations arise\, and meeting them with mindfulness\, compassion\, and wholesome skill in ways that care for both individuals and the Sangha. \nPricing\nWe are offering tiered pricing to allow accessibility. Please pay as much as you are able to to support this retreat. \n£140 – Generosity rate\n£100 – Standard rate\n£60 – Supported rate \nIf the lowest rate is still unaffordable for you\, please contact us. We would like no one to be turned away due to lack of funds. \nDana and Money\nThe booking rates are inclusive of dana for organisational ease. A proportion of income will go towards Plum Village UK’s costs plus a payment to Rehena and Sita\, and a donation to the Order of Interbeing UK Bursary fund. \nRefunds\nWe can offer a full refund minus the Ticket Tailor fee for cancellations made up to two weeks before the retreat. After that no refund is available other than in exceptional circumstances – please contact the organisers if you feel this applies to you. \nFurther Details\nFurther details of the weekend will be emailed to all participants closer to the time. \nShould you have any questions before then\, please feel free to contact us. \nContact Us\nEmail admin@plumvillage.uk

SUMMARY:Earth Care Sangha
DESCRIPTION:Earth Care Sangha – A Sangha For Our Times\nWe have to wake up together — Thich Nhat Hanh \nMany of us are aware that we live in times of great peril for life on Earth but also of great promise for change. It is easy to be overwhelmed by feelings of helplessness\, despair and sorrow for what is being done to the Earth. But by practising together we can make a positive difference\, and strengthen our resilience and joy. In response to our individual and collective need to do something\, Earth Care Sangha is offered. \nIn small Dharma sharing groups we can explore our feelings and speak openly in the company of others who share our concerns\, safe in the knowledge that we do this without judgement or conflict. We hope that by sharing freely in this way\, we can help each other find concrete ways to transform and heal\, cultivate joy\, and strengthen our understanding of interbeing with Mother Earth. \nGrounded in the Plum Village tradition\, and with close links to the Earth Care Steering Group\, Earth Care Sangha is truly a sangha for these times. We invite you to join us\, enjoy the practices\, and help shape its future. Let’s wake up together! \nPlease email earthcare@plumvillage.uk with any feedback\, questions\, suggestions or offers of help. \n\nEarth Care Resources\n\nDownloadable resources for holding your own Earth caring sangha meeting\nAdditional Earth Care Resources\n\n\n  \nPhoto by NASA on Unsplash \n  \n\nGuided Meditation: The Four Elements | Sister Chan Duc

SUMMARY:Creative Mindfulness Retreat in Cornwall
DESCRIPTION:Creative Mindfulness – Watering Seeds of Creativity and Joy\nIn each one of us is an artist. The artist is very important. The artist can bring freshness\, joy\, and meaning to life \n\nWe all have seeds of creativity inside\, and during this weekend we will water them. Together\, we’ll explore ‘play’ as one of the four pillars of Plum Village Zen practice. \nThrough creative explorations indoors and outdoors we’ll nourish qualities of openness\, aimlessness\, aliveness and connection. \nIn these times of big changes we want to be resilient. Being in touch with our heartfelt inspiration energises\, uplifts and supports us. \n\nThis retreat invites you to (re)discover your innate creative flow through meditation\, nature immersion\, and playful exploration in community. You’ll have time to experiment with colours\, sounds\, words\, and materials from the natural world. Time to explore\, to play\, and to be surprised by what emerges. You are invited to become curious\, receptive\, playful\, adventurous and tender. \nZen Master Thich Nhat Hanh encouraged us to embrace the energies of creativity and play as part of our practice. Mindfulness and creative exploration have a lot in common; they reach beyond words\, touch the heart\, expand the mind. Creativity supports our mindfulness\, and mindfulness nurtures our creativity. \nIn our time together\, our embodied presence\, silence and connection with the natural world help us touch the very heart and source of our creative energy. We’ll listen deeply to the sounds of nature around\, the creative stirrings within and the pieces we create together and individually. Meditation\, gentle movement\, a Dharma talk\, songs\, humming\, toning\, deep listening\, creative play\, reflection and sharing circles will all be part of this retreat. \nThe ticket for the retreat does not include a fee for the teacher. Following Buddhist tradition and practice\, there is an opportunity to offer Dana (a donation) to Susanne at the end of the weekend. Dana is the practice of generosity and giving from the heart within our means\, which has sustained teachers and the teachings throughout the millenia. A suggested amount is £10 – £40 per day\, please bring cash along (making a bank transfer will also be possible). \n  \nYou will experience\n\nGuided mindfulness meditations in the Zen Buddhist tradition of Plum Village and Thich Nhat Hanh\nGentle movement practices to support embodied presence\nA Dharma teaching on creativity as a Dharma door\nCreative explorations with colours\, sounds\, words\, and materials from the natural world indoors and outdoors\nSharing circles\n\n  \nPrevious participants said\n\nDeep listening and improvising in nature helped me to connect with life on a very deep level. It was a profound and beautiful experience. \nI loved the exploration\, it gave me great confidence. The teaching was friendly\, warm and very inspirational. \n…deeply nurturing… That listening walk was total medicine. The days passed so quickly and deliciously\, each new task having a sense of adventure. I am inspired\, THANK YOU. \n  \nPhoto credit: Landart © Dietmar Voorwold\, https://www.landart-creations.com
