A unique opportunity to experience Walking Meditation with Monastics from Plum Village visiting Durham as part of a UK tour.
Our mindful walk led by the Monastics will take us down to and along the banks of the River Wear, then up to and ending in the grounds of Durham Cathedral (duration around 35 minutes). Here we are invited to enjoy a bring-your-own-picnic lunch together in mindfulness. No experience of mindful walking is necessary.
In the words of Thich Nhat Hanh: “Walking meditation can be very enjoyable. We walk slowly, alone or with friends, if possible in some beautiful place. Walking meditation is really to enjoy the walking – walking not in order to arrive, but just to walk.”
Where to meet
Behind the white gate (i.e. off the trafficked road), 100 metres North West of the Quarryheads Lane/Potters Bank Roundabout. A photograph is provided.
Postcode: DH1 3DZ
Please gather away from the main trafficked road behind the white gate.
Some parts of the walk will be up-hill; support will be offered if needed. The picnic venue is fully accessible for wheelchairs.
The event is FREE with the encouragement to DONATE
In the Buddhist tradition Dana, or donations, are a way of showing gratitude for freely offered teachings. In this specific case we are also fundraising both for Plum Village (read here about their construction fund https://dana.plumvillage.org/) and the Being Peace centre in the UK (https://plumvillage.uk/beingpeace/)
We heartily encourage you to consider what you can afford (without depriving yourself and your family or dependents) as a donation at the end of this event.
We will be able to accept cash and have QR codes for direct card payments.
