Hosted by Durham University Chaplaincy Network this is a rare opportunity to join Monastics from Plum Village, South West France for an evening talk, ‘Finding stillness amidst the storms of the world’.

The Monastics from Plum Village will be visiting Durham as part of a UK tour. They will share their practice and experience in a live talk focusing on ways in which we can find stillness, calm and peace amidst the storms of the world, using mindfulness practices in the tradition of Zen Master, Thich Nhat Hanh (often referred to as ‘the Father of Mindfulness’ in the West).

Mindfulness is a practice originating in Buddhism and supported by neuroscience and psychology; it may be practised by those of all faiths, beliefs and worldviews. Thich Nhat Hanh brought mindfulness to the West in the early 1970s, developing new ways to apply ancient wisdom to the challenges of modern life. Mindfulness is a kind of energy that we generate when we bring our mind back to our body, become aware of our breathing and fully present for ourselves and whatever we are doing.

Everyone is welcome to this talk which is relevant for students, academics, professional support staff and members of the public alike.
